I connected my Asus GeForce 1060 6GB GPU to this monitor:

I can choose 144 Hz, but then the screen goes black, and after 30 seconds, it drops back down to 60 Hz for security reasons. I’m using a DVI-D cable. Why can’t it work at 144 Hz? I also tried enabling and disabling V-Sync. Additionally, I experience some lag when trying to play games in Chrome.
Does anyone know how I can get this to work properly? Also, if I buy a new HDMI cable, is the maximum output for the AOC screen limited to 120 Hz since it uses HDMI 1.4?
I downloaded all the new and updated GeForce drivers. Should I disable my onboard graphics, which I used to use before installing the graphics card?"
The mainboard is an Asus Prime Z-370P :
