So when I built my first gaming PC I really wasn't 100 percent sure what I was doing. So I did the best I could with components. But looking back now I put 1600Mhz ram in. Just wondering if there would be any kind of a benefit to putting 2400Mhz ram in? I could do it for a little over $100 depending on brand. Current PC is:

i5 4690k
MSI GTX 980
Gigabyte Z97MX-5 motherboard
16 gig Gskill ripjaw 1600Mhz ram
500 gig Samsung SSD

Hey, I see you are using an Intel Core I5-4690k, now you are talking about using a 2400MHz speed RAM now you should know that your CPU only supports DDR3 or DDR3L. Also the CPU only supports 1333MHz and 1600MHz so even if you wanted to use 2400MHz speed, you can't unless you upgrade your CPU.

Thank you for the advice. I didn't realize the cpu wasn't capable of 2400mhz ram.

My computer only does 2 things. Gaming and I run Blue Iris software to manage a couple of security cameras. Nothing that is really very memory intensive so I didn't think it would be worth the upgrade but I wanted to be sure.
