yo..

I have an old cpu 2nd generation intel..i know 2nd generation intel cpu's only supported max ram speed is 1333Mhz..but if i changed my motherboard to B75 or H67 Chipset motherboard will it be got 1600Mhz ram's speed?cuz motherboard with intel H61 Chipset only max supported to 1333Mhz

Solution
Ok so it can be overclocked to 1600mhz with a new mobo but i would not recommend it that cpu is not rated for it and it will give you little to no performance increase.

so it can't run at 1600Mhz??how about the people was using for example core i5 2500k,i7 2600k and 2700k. they overclocked the cpu and they using 1600Mhz Ram?

What cpu do u have?

i3 2100

What about if he changes his cpu to a 3rd gen that supports 1600mhz and puts it in his 2nd gen board?

I have done this recently and altho my board only supports 1333 it seems to be running at 1600?

biy confused

Yes that works in pretty much the same way the motherboard is rated for up to 1333mhz memory frequency but it can be overclocked to 1600 maybe even more even though your motherboard doesn't officially support it.

i see, but i would just like to add i did not over clock my system, it just changed upon putting my new cpu into the mobo - does this seem right?

(i always had 1600 ram, which ran at 1333 with my 2nd gen cpu)

cheers
