Ok so basically,

Im waiting till black friday to buy a new GPU. Im thinking of buying a 1660 or a 1660 ti but i want to keep my current CPU cause it would be too much if i were to buy a new CPU with it. Would keeping the r5 2400g massivley impact the performance of the 1660 or am I ok? Im currently running on the intergrated graphics and 16GB of 3000MHz RAM, also the CPU is clocked at 3.85GHz and the GPU part of it (dont know the specific name) is at 1500mhz. Had it since last year december.

Thanks

Solution
Ok, I see.

In that case: go with the 1660Ti if you want to keep things at being capable of 75+ fps (for the most part) at 1920x1080.

The CPU is not a problem in terms of bottleneck. There is no way that a system that has an existing CPU and GPU will ever be slowed down by giving it a faster/more capable GPU.

The term "bottleneck" gets misused a lot.

whats your motherboard and power supply?
what game do u play? at what resolution?

MOBO : MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC (went overkill on the mobo considering my actual CPU cause im future proofing for ryzen 4 or maybe 5, wait till next black friday)

PSU : Pure power 10 siler 80+ 500w

I like to play FPS games and also battle royale games but i do play alot of different types of games in general, depends on my mood and what im feeling for. I try to play most games at 1080p but if fps isnt good then i drop to 720p

My spec cause it seems to be needed :

MOBO : MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC (went overkill on the mobo considering my actual CPU cause im future proofing for ryzen 4 or maybe 5, wait till next black friday)

CPU : Ryzen 5 2400g @ 3.85GHz

RAM : corsair vengeance LPX 16GB @ 3000mhz

PSU : Pure power 10 siler 80+ 500w

GPU : no GPU

Storage : 2TB seagate barracuda and 500GB m.2 wd blue ssd

Monitor : https://eu.aoc.com/en/gaming-monitors/g2260vwq6 (probably gonna upgrade to 144hz pretty soon as well @ 1440p)

The CPU isn't at issue.

Your monitor is. What is your monitor's:
  • Resolution?
  • Refresh rate?
  • Does it have FreeSync, GSync, or neither?
    • If FreeSync, what is the FreeSync range?

https://eu.aoc.com/en/gaming-monitors/g2260vwq6

definetley gonna upgrade to a better monitor, probs gonna get a 144hz monitor at 1440p and bigger screen size (said 1080p before, my mistake meant to say 1440p)

Well, in that case, your chosen GPU is NOT going to deliver 144fps at 1920x1080.

I'd recommend against shooting for that goal, anyway. But if you feel that you absolutely MUST have those high framerates, then you're going to need a much more powerful (and expensive) video card.

First of all, i know i said the new monitor would be at 1080p but i actually meant to say 1440p

Second of all, I dont need fps higher than 100, i just need FPS more than 70 @ 1080p high settings on most games which i play (i can see the choopy framrates @ 60 fps). Im getting a new monitor cause the one i currently have is too small for me and also the better resolution means i can watch YT videos at a better quality, if anything i would actually game on my current monitor and use the other monitor for everything else.

I wouldn't pair a GTX 1660ti with a 4c4t CPU unless you plan to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 2600/3600/4600 later. That CPU will be pegged to 100% all the time and the GPU will likely only be used up to 65% on most games. An RX 580 or GTx 1660 or maybe a 1650 make more sense otherwise.

hey
i also have 2400g

could you please tell me how to Overclock Gpu in msi bios?
what are your settings for cpu OC? or you used Gameboost to OC?

I will be upgrading the CPU after this upgrade, would buy a 3600 but by the time id actuallyhave enough money to buy the CPU, ryzen 4th gen may be out or near, so i go for 4th gen.

Hi, I used a YT video to help me overclock but i was able to get 3.85 GHz out my CPU, tried 3.9GHz but PC wouldnt boot so 3.85 GHZ. If ou want higer IGPU speed then loweryour CPU clock speed and increase IGPU clock, be cautious of voltage and power:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I6gV5hthDc

If you want my settings @ 3.85 GHz :

CPU ratio : 3850

GFX Clock Frequency : 1500

CPU Core voltage : 1.3625

GFX Core Voltage/SoC voltage : 1.2875

(these settings are based on my CPU performance, you may get lower or even higher clocks)

if anything goes wrong then just just clear the CMOS, this is a physicall part

Ah, gotcha - ok, once you move up to 2560x1440, then you're talking an even more powerful video card to handle it, and to drive it at 70fps or more.

Side note: I've had a 27" 1920x1080 in the past (and used for several years), and my son has a 34" 2560x1080 ultrawide currently. Both have a pretty low ppi, but, both still very comfortable for use. Not everyone would agree, though, but, everyone's eyes are different. If it's at all possible for you to go to a brick-and-mortar store that displays a lot of monitors, you might want to check out what a large 1920x1080 monitor looks like in person. You might wind up liking it. But, it'll help with the decision making.

I feel like i just over complicated things with my explaining. The 1440p monitor would be used for everything but gaming. For gaming ill be using my current 75hz 1080p monitor. Would there be a major bottleneck?

2400G is 4c/8t, not 4c/4t...

Respectable for 1080P gaming (but aging fast in many games), but, not really capable of sustaining 144 fps if that is needed, IMO...; you'll want to upgrade the BIOS, and get an R5-3600 ASAP... (instant Nirvana!)
I would get a 3600 or even a 3600x if money were not a issue, i currently have no GPU and since the 3600 variants dont have a IGPU i would have to buy a dedicated GPU along with the 3600. I will eventually upgrade to the 3600 or maybe even 4600 (when and if it comes out) but right now need a pretty good GPU which can handle most standard games at 1080p 70 ish and intensive games at 720p 60
