16g max 4gx4 or 8gx2

I have a ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 115Y INTEL P55 ATX INTEL motherboard. I want to upgrade to 16g of memory. Will it run with 2 8g sticks or do I need to get 4 4g sticks?

The P55 is limited to 4GB sticks so go with 4x4GB
