1700x or 2600x?

What would be a better buy overall. Im looking for a new cpu and my two choices are the ryzen 1700x or a ryzen 2600x. I found a 1700x for 200$ which is basically the same amount as the 2600x.

2600 is the best choice if you already have a cooler, orelse get the 2600x

Wow...same price? this is hard to choose...
For gaming, I would choose 2600x since it is faster on the single core speed, comes with a cooler and has lower latency.
For a mix bag usage including content creation, 1700x has 2 more cores (4 threads), which could be more useful.
If you ask me, which one would I choose for me, I would pick 2600x+X470 over 1700x. The newer tech has quite a lot of improvements e.g. better RAM compatibility , incl those you can not see directly and it comes already with a decent cooler.

Hi, I am in the same doubt. Ryzen 7 1700x is a ryzen 7 series, it has 8 cores, 16 threads and a lot better in workstation (rendering etc). On the other hand, Ryzen 5 2600x is 2nd generation, higher frequency and better gaming performance. So, if you are going to do simple tasks (using it as desktop and gamimg) it seems that you should better go for ryzen 2600x. But if you are going to use it as a workstation, ryzen 7 1700x will be much more better since it has 8 cores and 16 threads.
