Any suggestions on which LCD monitor i should get that would be the best for gaming and general use? im looking for an 18+ inch with good brightness and contrast. I just dont want to get stuck with something i dont like (EX, trails or poor refreshs).
I was looking at the Samsung 191T because it has a good contrast ratio at 500:1 and 250 cd/m2. Any thoughts?

thanks for your help.

My local Best Buy has the Samsung 191T set up on display with Medal of Honor running on it. Might be worth a visit to a local retailer...Seems like the perfect way for you to get an idea if you'd like it.

I don't have an LCD and I'm just learning about them myself, but I did think the Samsung looked pretty good. I didn't really notice any "ghosting" but the screen looked very bright and "washed out" to me. Maybe the settings needed to be adjusted.

I'm eyeing the new 17" monitors with a 16ms response time,,,, (planar px171m and hitachi cml174), but I would much rather have an 18 or 19" with the same specs!

I have the 191T and I love it. It's the best 19 inch LCD out right now. THere is some ghosting in some games. I play SOFII a lot and it has some ghosting on some of the maps. This usaully happens when you have a dark foreground object in front of a light background. If there is an in games brightness adjustment you should turn that almost all the way up. This decreases the ghosting a lot. I have my 191T connected with the DVI connector and no adjustment is needed. It just auto detects everything including brightness. If you see nay 19" LCD's that are coming out with a 16ms response time go for them instead as you will get better performance out of it.

The 191t pretty much sucks for all intents and purposes with the exception of 2d stuff. It's pretty good for that. It ghosts like a mother though. The one I saw seemed to top out at about 30fps in CS. I just got my CML174. Pretty damn fine monitor, but it's pretty rough. I guess thats just the nature of digital. My Sony E500 21" is much smoother, so I'd only recommend the 16ms 17s for a lan gamer with a burley video card. 4x antialiasing is just enough to take away the grain, and once you do, it looks damn fine.

Wow you sound very idiotic to me. I play sofII and I easily get 90fps. And I've seen worst ghosting in other monitors than this one. And what the hell do you mean by rough for your CML174? How about explaining what you mean when you post something!!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. -Vezzini and Inigo</font color=blue>

Just keep telling yourself that the 191t is adequate... eventually you might start to believe it. Regarding the CML 174, I'm saying it's very "digital" looking; eg: precise and revealing of artifacts. It's much nicer with AA, and for that reason I am anticipating my modded 9500 because it definately has the best response rate and most vivid colors at its pricepoint.

Wait!!! Did I get here in time? Hopefully. I have to warn you, DO NOT GET THE 191T. Not good for gaming. I just got one because they fooled me also with the advertized 25ms response time. The 25ms response time is of course an average, but the reason the 191T sucks so bad compared to other 25ms LCDs is that the black on white is terrific, while colors and greys are terrible. They get the 25ms average through mixing terrific and terrible. I do not like this combination. My roommate has a 25ms Sony LCD and the response time is much more average across everything. As far as games go, this is way better. The difference is significant between our two monitors. Although I must say that besides the response time, everything else about the 191T is fantastic. It's just not enough to offset the horrible response, so I'm going to try and get rid of my 191T. I've been researching for a new monitor now. Anyone have anything to say about the Viewsonic VX900?

Well, I saw a little of the VX900 at a CompUSA and it looked promising. It was hooked up to an Apple notebook, so I couldn't do much. Just the mouse on desktop looked good--at least better than the 191T. I also got the Star Wars Episode 2 running on it. Now it's much harder to notice smearing with videos and I can barely see any even on my 191T, but there was none that I could see on the VX900. Also the contrast looked at least as good as the 191T. The viewing angle seemed to be about the same as well. I really need to go back and try out some games though. If only I had a laptop that I could hook up to the thing in the store.
