Currently updating the girlfriends laptop's (toshiba satellite C55 A 1GS) memory (currently 1 x 4gb1Rx8 PC3L - 12800S-11-12-B2), and from searches on ebay for a cheap addition, all I come across are "2RX8 PC3 11 11(or 13) F3".

Is anyone able to confirm if they are compatible as theres a spare slot for another 4Gb or is it safer to just purchase another 8Gb? Does the 11 12 B2 parts of the RAM have to match also?

Thanks in advance

M

Solution
The 11 12 B2 part refers to the timing, and yes, it has to match. 1R and 2R refers to the chips being on one side of the ram stick or on both sides. You will need another 1x 4Gb PC3L 12800S 11-12 B2 Ram. This way you will also benefit from the dual-channel setup.

Silly question but as the availability of that exact matching ram is pricing in around £40-50, would purchasing a new 8gb (or 2x 4gb) sticks be advisable for around £20 with different timings?

Again cheers
