My budget is 1000-1500$ without the monitor. I´m gonna use it mainly for gaming and officework. Also, I do plan to overclock, but not to the maximum. My goal was to create a PC that lets me play current AAA games at preferably the highest settings and high framerates and lasts for the next 5-7 years. Consequently, one of my main focus points is longevity.
That is also why I chose the r9 390 because I´m highly assuming 8GB vram will be enough for the next few years, while the 3,5GB of the gtx 970 might not be. I´m considering maybe adding a 2nd gpu and upgrading to 1440p in 3 years or so. But it depends on how the gpu´s price and performance hold up, and also how affordable 4k is gonna be at that point. Because if I can see that I´m probably gonna be able to afford 4k after those 5-7 years, upgrading to 1440p halfway there perhaps isn´t the best idea.
As for the cpu, the 6600k seems like a pretty good choice when it comes to bang-for-your-buck and again, longevity. The asus z170a also looks like a good pick for my price range. And yes, I do need those 16GB ram
At this point really the biggest question I´m still asking myself is if I should immediatly buy a 1440p monitor. I´m strongly leaning towards the 1080p 144hz side though. Because if I went for 1440p now I´d probably be better off with the r9 390x for better framerates. But that coupled with the higher costs for a good 1440p monitor just outgrows my budget. So staying with 1080p for now and maybe upgrading in 3 years, if it pays off, as I explained above, seems smarter to me. Note: Framerate and Res are both about equally important to me.
Also, I´m still searching for keyboard and mouse, currently looking at Logitech G105 and Logitech G402; those appear to be two good budget-choices. (both together should be about 100$)
So if you could help me with one of those questions, or have any other suggestions for alternative parts, or just some feedback in general, I´d be very thankful if you could share it.
