I have 4gb of RAM. What is the process of installing all 4gb? Do I install only 2gb first, then the rest after setup?

Some people have reported that Vista will crash during the install with more then 2Gig in. But I had no problems installing it with 4 in my system. I would start with it all in and only remove if I came up with a problem.

Try all 4. If Vista gives you a stop error when installing take out 2GB and re-start the install (there is a known error where Vista can crash with 3 or more GB installed).

If you had to remove some ram then once installed apply SP1 to Vista and then shut the PC down and install the rest of the ram

With XP I dont think there is a problem with memory ammounts.

Remember, with 4GB you should really be using a 64bit O/S to get access to all your memory.

It may also be a good idea to download memtest and just run a single pass after installing all the ram so you know its all ok. I have had a faulty modual from the factory before.

Why even post man?! Whats more shocking is that there are people stupid enough to believe you

I would've considered that an obvious joke. But sadly in this country people are not only allowed to be really F**king retarted, they benifit from it greatly. So ya you never know who's gonna read something and go "dude, watch this, i found a great idea on the internet".

Installed vista on both PCs and Laptops running with 4gb and above ram, and never encountered any problems.
This goes for both the 32bit business vista and 64bit ultimate vista versions.

Thanks for the legitimate advice from almost everyone. GeOMan is a legitimate contender for best head in the western hemisphere and I heard he was Ru Paul's personal towel boy back in 93.

guess im the only one encountering the 4gb install issue :[
i just ended up using 2gb to update.. including hotfix, then installing the other 2gb. just try it out, if it blue screen with memory issues, simply take 2gb out, update, and pop them back in.

Actually i'm in the eastern hemisphere, and even more shocking the southern hemisphere to boot, and hey if you’re going to take advice like snap your ram sticks in half, you have no place building you own rig, just buy a mac and be done with it :>
