1st time building computer, need advise on parts

Hello, this is my first time building a computer. I've been doing some research and I think I figured out what specifications I am looking for.

The parts I am considering using are :

CPU- Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU cooler- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory- G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Storage-Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video card- Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II Video Card

Does anyone have any recommendations as to my choices, how this should work, and whether I can reduce costs with alternate parts.

Really solid and well constructed build, the only thing I would change is the GPU by going for a gtx 970. In most games you get better performance and it consumes less power. I think they're around the same price as well.

Are you overclocking? Because if you aren't then lose the CPU cooler, because the stock cooler will work, and go to a cheaper non-K series CPU.

It looks amazing and the parts look carefully chosen. I have no issues with it other than what I mentioned above.
(Actually, I'm really jealous)

This is better. You basically get an i7 with the Xeon also with a better PSU and GPU.

If you pick up the i5 from microcenter you can get a significant discount, also I upgraded the gpu and replaced a few things such as upgrading the mobo, as well as changing the psu so that you can sli the gtx 970 in the future.

I just refined the OP's build, most of the OPs build is fine, just you can choose better for his budget
