Hi,

This afternoon, i powered up my computer and i proceeded to obtain some files from my portable hard drive. I Glanced at the unit, and i noted that the blue light, which is typically illuminated, wasn't on. I then navigated to the 'My PC' in the file explorer to find that the drive wasn't showing up. So, after this, i tried plugging it into various ports on my computer, and the usual windows chime sounded when ever you unplug and plug the USB in. As well as this, i could feel the drive powering up when i held the device, but it still wan't showing up in windows. I then tried it on another computer i had, but still no luck. The drive is showing up in the 'devices and printers' section, and it is powering on, however the blue light isn't illuminating. I was wondering if anyone on here could shed some light on the situation.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi -
I'm not going to be very helpful, except to share some experience.

I've had a few external HDs that either have gone bad and displayed the same behavior you're describing or are very finicky and don't always want to connect. You're doing the right thing by trying it on another computer. Might also try another USB cable and, of course, powering down and rebooting the PC.

Wish I could offer more. Good luck!

Can you go into disk manager and see if it appears in there? If you reboot PC and enter BIOS - and check the Boot Order and see if drive is in there?

If drive not in either - switch SATA ports around, otherwise your drive might be broken.

If it appears in BIOS, then give it a while to appear on your PC. If it appears in Disk Manager - then it's working fine, see if you can update the drivers for it in disk manager.
