You can try to go into disk management and see if it is listed there , it may just need to be initialized. Go to the start menu and right click on computer , then select manage and in the window that pops up select disk management and see if the drive is listed there as unalocated space. If it is then you will have to right click on the drive and follow the insructions to make a partition and then format it and give it a drive letter.

You could take it out of the external case and connect it to the internal sata port to see if the drive is good or if the enclosure is at fault.

Even on connection directly with ur PC through SATA cable and SATA power cord , if it doesnt work .Check for warranty and get it replaced.

If you have some critical data to be recovered , send out a mail to seagate regarding recovery get a confirmation . Get it recovered from some local agents.

I had the EXACT problem and after hours of downloading programs like SeaTools and researching THIS FIXED it. You probably need to assign a drive letter to it
Probably you are missing a driver.
In run give the command, devmgmt.msc
It wil open the device manager. Does it show anything related to your device with a yellow colored exclamatory mark??

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management. It should show up on the right hand side of the
screen. Assign it a drive letter.

This has to do with the USB "refreshing" after it has been removed. A simple device, like a USB mouse refreshes near instantly, but a Seagate drive takes longer, and usually if the drive gets unplugged, when you try to plug it back in it will just sit there, regardless of what USB slot you are plugging it into.

Take a USB device that IS working on your machine, (I use a cordless mouse), unplug the USB plug from any slot (let's call that slot A), and plug that USB device into ANY different USB slot. The mouse will show disconnection and then reconnection.

For some reason, this action will "zeroize" slot A, and it will now recognize the Seagate.

Then plug the Seagate drive into THAT slot you just removed the other USB device from (slot A).

If one of the gurus here could explain this solution that would be great. I know it works, I would love a competent "why"

Fantastic Peter Michael. I have tried so many things and your "plug" switching did work although it took 3 attempts. You are a genius.

The only problem now is that the Samsung external hard drive in a Noontec Movie Player keeps dropping out. I need to unplug the USB and/or turn the unit off and on to get it to run for 15 minutes or so.

after much research, this worked for me:
-uninstall seagate dashboard
-uninstall memeo (important: wont work without these steps)
-restart windows
-go to device manager
-under any `base system` and `unknown` devices which have yellow exclamation icons, right-click and uninstall
-install seagate dashboard and memeo from cd
-restart computer
-voila! After searching for hours, this fix worked for me and continues to even after restarting windows and is not linked to what usb devices you have plugged in.

It works because windows does not have a conflict when installing the cd whereas it does if these yellow exclamation thingies are left. It will NOT work if these remain, and dont worry, once the software IS freshly installed, it doesnt matter wether these pop up; the conflict is gone!

I had the same issue.....but when I logged off goflex and log back in...it actually recognize the drive....Im watching a blueray movie over my Ipad and looks perfect withno ideo laggiong..good luck

Many reasons could causes the hard drive not been detected, like hard drive dead, or cable problem, or the connector problem, or usb problem, so to narrow down the problem, you may connect hard drive to other usb port, or other computer and see whether it is detected. If still can not, you may take a look at this guide: fix corrupted hard drive

You may also check whether it can be detected by bios

If the hard drive is totally dead and not bootable, not detected by bios, then you may have to get it repaird. You may check whether it's under warranty and then send for repair.

So now...I am a Computer user since like almost 15-20yrs with a sound technical mind to troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues. Now I have got this Seagate Hard Disk as a gift from my brother, the specific model is the 'GoFlex Home 1TB' (Remote Access), something which one can attach to a Router and use it on Wi-Fi for multiple computers to access the data. I swear to GOD I have never been so frustrated and sick since last 5-6 days trying to get this thing started.

Stage 1: I connect the Lan Wire to my router. There is also a USB port beside it. So I get a USB-to-USB and attach it to my PC. Well nothing happens. Anyhow after 2days of breaking my head I disconnected the USB and kept it connected only via the LAN wire attached to my Router. I have only 1 PC so i kind of dont need the Wi-Fi and other sharing services. Finally after installing all necessary softwares (The Dashboard) I can now see my drives. 1TB of space waiting to be loaded. PLEASE NOTE. The drive now cannot be seen from My Computers, it can only be accessed/seen from 'MY NETWORK' (MY AIM: I want to access it from My Computers)

Stage 2: What I want to do with this drive is to use it just like my WD External Drive, which with one passcode opens up like a Pen Drive, and I can write/read/edit/delete any file I want at will. (3-4days have already passed figuring out a way). The only OPTION I had was to search ONLINE. Now literally every Online forum says or gives only one solution, i.e to change the drive letter or partition from DISK MANAGEMENT. But...when I cannot view the drive from My Computer, it wont even show up on Disk Management...it can be viewed only via My Network......

Stage 3: No forum has my answer. By this time I am so frustrated that I feel like jumping off da window.
Why...why Oh Lord did I go for dis Seagate HDD....and why not WD...

Please HELP!

I don't have a solution. This was working the other day when i was burning off dvd files i copied to it when i copied a homemade disc now it just lights solid or flashes and doens't reconize.
Now i did go to my brother's computer and gave me that error couldn't recongize that i normally get on mine or my moms computer and now it quit and won't even load on his computer. Mine is a seagate 1TB expansion i got at walmart last year. i've tried wabbling the cord around and just a moment got the "this device can run faster on a high speed usb 2.0 port"but it never shows up in the computer area it does in devices and whatever and then disapears then starts flashing the blue light.

possibly may be the cord but if its the cord why would it light up and flash if it was?

I think the fix for this is to reformat the external drive to ExFat if it’s not already. That worked for me but I do use a Mac.
