Having several issues with this drive. It is connected to a USB 3.0 slot and I have tried a couple different cords with no change.

When connecting the drive I get a popup saying "You need to format this disk blah blah". If I do try to format(which I DO NOT want to do) it tells me I cant. The drive shows under my computer as "Local Disk" but with no data information listed under it. Also if I try to right click on the drive, My Computer screen lags for a couple minutes until the drive just goes away.

Usually after the initial "you need to format" message and the lag, its as if the drive doesnt exist.. Nothing under Device Manager, nothing under Disk Management. Usually after plugging it in, Disk Management screen lags for a bit just as My Computer does if I try to right click or access the drive.

The light on the drive is on and the drive does appear to be spinning.

Ive tried changing the drive letter (yesterday it actually displayed in Drive Manager for a couple seconds which was just enough time to change the drive letter.

Have also tried running chdsk and when the drive displays long enough, Ive loaded the Partition Find and Mount program, selected drive and hit scan.. but nothing ever comes of it.

Any ideas as to what can be done?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

If ity was working before and all sudden this happens means the drive is corrupted.

I am pretty sure it has issues since in disk manager it lags.

Goto seagate website and download a repair tool if their is one.

If the drive isn't under warranty anymore, you might want to get the disk out and plug it in the computer directly to see if you can access it.

Else it dead.

Well I finally got it to load. Even though I had tried it a dozen times rpeviously with no luck, this time when I clicked "format drive", it lagged for a bit but a couple minutes later the format option screen finally popped up. Now I can see the drive in Disk Manager and My Computer. I can open it and even scan it with Partition Find and Mount.

The only thing is, with Partition Find and Mount, it says no visible partitions found.

How could I go about recovering the data on the drive? Would I need to run recovery software now or would I need to format it first? Or is there nothing I can do?'

Edit - I also ran the TestDisk program, but after selecting Analyse I get "Partition: Read Error". I had started the quick search but after 12 hours it was only at 1%. So at that rate it would take weeks.

Not sure on the rules of bumping. Didnt see anything about it. Its been a few days so figured it would be ok.

I got TestDisk to run the full Analyse but it came up empty. So I went on with the deep scan which also came up empty.

At the top of Disk Management the Drive shows as RAW with 100% free. Attached image below of how drive is shown at the bottom of Disk Management. ( F drive)
