1tb seagate hard drive

hi guys,
i have a problem with my hard drive. when i disconnect it from my pc everything runs fine, but when i connect it to my pc it gives me problems. just before the windows plash screen i get a message that says, "GEMZP is compressed press ctrl+alt+del to restart". i have no idea what it means. not even microsoft can help me and i cant even find such a thing on google.
urgently need help with this. all my document and work is stored on this hard drive.

Well you should never rely on just a single hard drive for file storage, you need at least two so you have at least one backup of everything.

If Windows won't start with that drive connected, buy an external enclosure for it so you can plug it in to a USB port after Windows has loaded, then test it.

This is a hard drive I use only for storage. My main hard drive is a seagate 500g. I did put it in a ext case but when I connect it my computer freezes.

That's not a good sign as it usually means the drive has already failed.

That doesn't invalidate what I said earlier about keeping second copies of everything on a second storage drive. I keep four backups of all my stuff on four externals & when one of them fails I replace it and transfer backups to it straight away from one of the others.

Your only hope of retrieving the data now is to send the drive to a data recovery specialist, but it won't be cheap because it's a service that caters mainly for businesses and large corporations.
