Welcome to the 2018 Best PC Builds Competition! For over two decades Tom's Hardware has brought you news and reviews of the latest in PC hardware, while the famous forum has grown to more than 2 million members. Because of their expertise and the constant requests for help with PC builds, our members have developed a talent for finding the best prices and putting together the best system builds.

This thread is for the $2,000 High End Content Creation and Gaming Rig budget category. Please only submit builds within the $2,000 budget category to this thread. All other builds will be disqualified.

Please make sure to follow the ground rules below. Any builds over budget will be disqualified.

Here are the ground rules:

  • Only one build per budget category, per user. Multiple builds from a single user or duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
    ■Do not go over budget.
■Use only Amazon OR Newegg to source parts.
■Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
■Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
■Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad.
■All builds must have a name.
■Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
Provide links to the Amazon or Newegg product pages of each component — we encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction. Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums:

We are taking votes, just not at this time. We are waiting for all of our members to submit builds first. There is no set start date on the vote, but we are aiming for a date between October 22nd or October 29th.

$1977.05 - $4.99(shipping) +$10 (case sale) = $1982.06

Which leaves another $17 for the variation in the 9700k price.

With the final fan configuration being 2x140mm in the front as intake and 1x140mm in the back as exaust.

I wasn't originally going do a coffee lake refreshed build due to 9900k being impossible to fit it without major compromises, but i wanted to show the no.1 best performance/price case on the market that comes with the best stock fans that are guaranteed to keep the air temperature inside of the case between 2-5 degrees from room temperature, due to non-obstructive mesh at the front.

And to show the no.1 best price/performance CPU cooler, the True Spirit 140 Power biggest OC headroom monstrosity which can dissipate 360W of heat, and will cool the 9700k/or a 9900k, as good if not better than all but a few CLC watercooling solutions for only $50. (Pictures don't the the cooler justice, it is absolutely massive). In fact it is so massive, that it will partially cover the first M.2 slot, and cool a potential SSD in it, making a SSD heatsink unnecessary :)

Either Threadripper or Core i9 would require compromises in order to fit the budget. What to do then? Keep the 2700X, double the RAM and storage, use watercooling so XFR2 can do its thing, get a better case with improved airflow, and then realize how great it would be if AMD released a 2800X because it would make so much sense for this build.
