I have 4gb ddr2 ram, core 2 duo e7500 2.93 ghz, nvidia gt 710 gddr3 2gb gpu, 500 gb ssd, windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Which processor will give better fps in games - core 2 duo e7500 2.93 ghz or quad core q400 2.6 ghz. All i want is gaming and i know that if a game utilises all 4 cores then q 8400 will be better but there are many games which uses only 1 or 2 cores, thus in that case, core 2 duo has more ghz thus worrying about that, should i get q 8400 or not.

Unless you are playing a variety of quite old games (Medal of of Honor, Quake 3, and others from at least 10-12 years ago), I'd guess that neither is really going to provide a great gaming experience, but, if forced to choose, I'd personally choose the quad core.

but some games like assasin's creed 3 uses only only 2 cores, thus which will be faster please tell me. I want high fps in ac creed 3, ac creed 4, valorant, gta 4, csgo type of games.

It was one of my first pc build.. when I build that system to play far cry 3.. (I was using C2D E8500 instead of E7500)

And I would like to tell you that.. Core 2 Quad Q8400 is almost 2 times better in gaming... It can run Valorant, GTA5, Far Cry 4 etc etc... While Core 2 Duo just run at 100% for most time with very high frame time.. hence very bad realtime performance...

Still I have a working PC in my basement with Core 2 Quad Q8400, Foxin G31 Motherboard (cheap Chinese), 2*2GB DDR2 800Mhz, Msi GT 1030 2GB GDDR5
And I have tested GTA 5, Valorant, CSGO on it. And it works fine..

My Core 2 Quad is not boosting properly on this cheap Chinese board.. because It has only 3 VRM phases.. and my CPU Runs most of the time at 2.1-2.3Ghz not 2.66Ghz .

Hope you get your answer.

first of all, my mother board is not chinese, second don't suggest me anything other than my question as i have another pc with gtx 1660 ti, 16 gb ram, core i7 8th gen but that pc belongs to my father thus i get to play on it only 1 hours a day, so rest of the time i can only game on my particular low end pc that i own myself as i am under 18 so i don't earn. Third, games like gta 4 and assasins creed 3 are more cpu intensive than gpu thus what should i get just tell me, i already have c2d e7500 and i am thinking of buying core 2 quad q8400 or q9500 ( in my country both have same price on flipkart that is 1500 rupees).

I wouldn't expect to see enough of a performance improvement going from 2.6ghz to 3ghz to outweigh the benefits of having a quad core over a dual core.

Personally, I might be looking adding more ram, but I guess I'd agree with the post that recommended maybe a new video card instead of a cpu upgrade. 3ghz really isn't a bad speed and installing another cpu to run with a gt 710 just doesn't sound very productive to me.
