2 GPUs = One for mining another for everything else?

Hi guys... I´m kind a newbie in all this computer stuff... I have a R9 280X Vapor X (3gDDR5) in my computer (mobo is a sabertooth mark s) and want to buy a Asus gtx970 turbo (4gDDR5)... my question is, can I have install both gpus and dedicate one (R9) to bitcoin mining an the other one (Gtx970) to everything else (gaming, OS, and so...)? If yes, how do I need to configure the settings to do it? Thanks in advance.

What's your OS? In theory you can with XP and W7 but not Vista and I have no idea abuot W8 or W10.

OS right now is W 8.1 Pro... waiting to update to win 10 Pro
