2 Great Things on Windows 8 that bumb me out about 8.1

I really like Windows 8 and decided to upgrade to Win 8.1. There are a lot of visual improvements, an upgraded web browser and more. From that aspect, two thumbs up.

However 1 item I really, really liked from Win 8 was the Photo App. In that one app I consolidated all my 10K+ photos on my system and on the web in 1 place - basically my quick access photo portal. It was slick. With the W8.1 upgrade they have changed the "features". No longer can one access Cloud based places like Flickr or Facebook... only SkyDrive. Equally bad, now it will only access pictures on my C: Drive. So many, like me, with a SSD for the OS and Applications and a separate Data drive do not have any pictures from our Data drives show up in Photo App. So, with Win 8, my whole photo universe was in one place, which was wonderful. With Win 8.1 the Photo App tells me it cannot find a single picture. What? A disaster... and hundreds of equally disgruntled people chiming in on this fact on the Microsoft Support website. Not only is this not a Bug, someone from Microsoft in charge of the App actually posted they did this on purpose!

The second big botch... I actually like SkyDrive to automatically map my pictures so I have easy access to them between the 4 devices I own. In Win 8.1, this Cloud App is even more integrated. But the big screw up is the folder HAS TO remain on the C: drive... no mapping, junctions, syncing or what ever will allow content from another drive to be routed through the SkyDrive folder to then be synced up to The Cloud. Like with my Photo App issue, I'm not going to put 10K photos on my SSD dedicated to my OS and Applications. So now SkyDrive is worthless to me, like the Photo App.

As a photographer these were the 2 really big innovations in Windows 8 that I loved, and now they are gone. Quite disappointing. Has anyone else figured out a work-around to my dilemmas?

Just ms being stupid. They really want ALL your data on their cloud. So they tighten their gripe and lose more users between thier fingers.

I don't use it much... maybe picassa may give you more flexibility. Its free.

10k photos? I have over 92k of personal and work photos (220gb)...

Yes, I have pointed the Library Picture folder at my D:/Pictures file. The pictures show in the Library. (also, FYI, the Library is hidden by default in 8.1).
