256gb SSD

Currently I have a 570 GTX. I have 2 monitors as I program, video edit and game on this machine. I have a TV sitting right next to it that I wanted to hook up so I can use XBMC on it. However, the GTX 570 does not support 3 monitors. So I either have to get another GTX 570 or upgrade the video card.

Would it be more beneficial for my daily use to get another GTX 570 or upgrade to a GTX 970? I have read on these forums that upgrading the card is always better than using SLI, but I don't plan on using SLI, and just using multiple monitors. The less flicker/stutter during gaming the better. I do not plan on using max gaming settings, just playable and looking decent is good enough for me.

If you just want to add another monitor, you don't need to get another of the same card. You can probably even use your integrated graphics to run the TV if you enable them in the BIOS. Otherwise, any Nvidia card should be able to power the TV.

Of course, if you do get another 570, you can enable SLI while you are gaming for better performance and disable it when you want to use all 3 screens.

I checked out that R9 280x, which is a very good price option. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-280X-vs-GeForce-GTX-970
I guess it depends how much I want to spend.

I'm going to sell my TP500LN laptop and get a cheap dell flip touch laptop, and use the cash to probably go for the GTX 970 after reading everyone's responses. I saw the FTW edition for just a few bucks more. That should be quieter and cooler, which is what I like, as I remember having 3x SLI on my old video cards really heated up the room and living in Florida is a pain with it getting that hot in my office.
