2 Gtx 980ti's or a 1440p moniter?

Hello everybody! I was wondering if I should go sli on Msi Gtx 980ti's with the sacrifice of a 1080p moniter for the moment. I could then upgrade to a 1440p Asus rog swift in a couple of months. Or I could reverse that. I could get s single Msi Gtx 980ti with a 1440p moniter and get another Gtx 980ti in a couple months. What should I do? I personally am leaning toward the 2 Gtx 980ti's right now. I was looking up some benchmarks on the latest games and it shows less than 60fps at 1440p on ultra. I don't want any dips below 60fps at ultra on 1440p so that's why I think the 2 Gtx 980ti's would be better. I know with a 1440p g-sync I won't see the dips but I'm not so sure. What are yall opinion on it? Thanks for the responses yall!!

I upgraded last month to a 1440 BenQ 27" Monitor. It's ok... but I honestly don't see that much of a difference from a 1080p display.

People say wait... but I don't think NVidia will offer much of a performance jump with any new GPU... and their prices will be outrageous.

If you upgrade your monitor... will you get the same size or something larger? Since you already have a decent card... just go for the monitor right now... get that out of the way... and then you'll have the option of either buying a second card for SLi... or even selling your current card to buy a better one if something dramatically awesome is released in a couple of months.

As someone pointed out... the 980Ti is still their best card (after Titan) and everything is about making money to a company. It would not make financial sense for them to come out with a card that takes full advantage of the new architecture... Another person noted that NVidia will "milk" their 970 and 980 cards at much as possible for the rest of this year... and their second Gen Pascal cards next year (2017) will be the ones with the huge jump.

Don't hold your breath for the next gen stuff like some are ALWAYS advocating... If you are not satisfied with your current setup/having issues as YOU see it, do as YOU see fit within YOUR budget. Granted, Pascal is a radical leap in GPU tech from what has been seen to date but... It's not here yet, performance and pricing has yet to be seen.

IMO, a single 980 Ti and 1440p is a good option, just be prepared as even though the Ti is a beast, 1440p is workload-leap from 1080p for any GPU; DSR is a decent measure of this when using a 1080p monitor but is not true 1440p... close but not true.

Like SBM noted (about 1440p and 1080p) and is why I reverted back to my Asus 1080p 144Hz 27". I can DSR to any rez I want and apply settings as needed to get the best quality and retain high FPS at the same time. This is just my preference to do so and yes I use a GTX 980 Ti in doing so at the same time. At 1080p with everything maxed, I cannot tell a much of a difference either (between 1440p other than kick ass frames) or maybe it's just that I'm not a "elitist", lol.

Question... what is your current monitor/GPU spec?

Your call...

^ @vacavalier beat me to asking the question. What are your full specs, including your power supply's manufacturer and model #? Without knowing that, my recommendation would have also been the same: one ROG Swift and one 980 Ti. Then when Pascal comes out sell the 980 Ti for a 1080 Ti.

By the way, this is an excellent dilemma to have.

Lenovo is coming out with a sweet 27in 1080p 144hz G-sync curved VA panel monitor for $550. At 1080p your fps will remain high, you're also getting a curved VA (ips like) panel and silky smooth G-sync 144hz.

Note: 80fps or more w/gsync is butta, even 70 looks great, yes I can see a difference when fps are 100+ it's even more insanely smooth but I also try to keep things as close to ultra as possible. Rare dips from 45-60 looks/feels like 60hz/60fps vsync at least but you don't want to be down there too often.

uhm no, eg 780ti transitioning to the gtx980. how did that go? both AMD and NVIDIA are stepping up due to the ludicrous VR demands as well. 6 months ago i was hoping for a maxwell refresh we're reaching the 2nd quarter with no news about it though.

"milk" is when they start the rebrand spree.

Thank you everyone for the answers!! I have a rmx 1000w psu and a asus 144hz 1080p moniter at the moment! I will be getting a second ti and will get a rog swift later on down the road. Thanks again!! :)
