Question 2 Lane Thunderbolt 3 - Bottlenecking eGPU performance?

Hello Everyone,

I'm planning to get a Huawei Matebook X Pro 2018, however, it seems that it's Thunderbolt 3 connection is only 2 lane instead of 4.

This means that speed is halved to 20GB/s

I am planning to use an eGPU hosting an RTX 2060. This will be connected to a VR headset.

Will I experience a 2 lane thunderbolt 3 bottleneck?

You have the number wrong. It is in Gbps not GB/s. Yes it will not be nearly as fast as a direct PCIe x16 connection.

You will have some performance drops due to this, might be more as this guy used a full Thunderbolt 3 connection.

So in short, yes it will bottleneck the GPU slightly, looks like a 20% drop in most cases sometimes more sometimes less.
