2 monitors with one HDMI port

Hi,
I have an HP Envy x360 and am looking to hook up two monitors. The laptop only has one HDMI port so I have tried using a HDMI male to dual female splitter adapter and this is not working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Presumably you want each monitor to work as a separate display. Not just duplicating the video feed. You will need a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter. Basically it is a simple external video card.

A splitter will only work in a clone mode. If you want extended desktop mode get a usb to hdmi adapter.
