2 month old gaming computer shut down and won't turn on - light on mobo

Hi, a few months ago I built my own gaming rig, and I've had problems similar to this in the past with this computer. Sometimes, for no visible reason, it just shuts down. I can usually turn it straight back on, but if it does it repetitively I make sure the wires aren't loose and it usually sorts itself out.

It is DEFINATELY not to do with temperature, I have a CPU cooler bigger than my head with lots of decent fans. Temps never go above 28 Celsius.

Off the top of my head, I have

Intel 4770k 3.5ghz Processor
MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming MOBO
16gb ram (2x8gb)
MSI GeForce GTX 780ti GPU
2tb seagate hard drive
250gb Samsung ssd drive
Corsair Platinum AX760 (can't remember actual name)
A big ass Noctua CPU cooler

So I was just gaming as usual earlier, web based game nothing performance challenging, and then it shut down. So I opened it up, made sure everything was plugged in, then turned it on again.

Everything was cool for about 5 hours, and then it shut down again. Except now it won't start up!

I've tried resitting the ram, no change, and the power button on the motherboard is on, but nothing happens when pressed.

Any help or advice would be great, but I really really don't want to have to take it apart.

Is the light on the motherboard red?

Do you have a second powersupply to test it on? The PSU could be failing.

It's a green light. I do not have another PSU.

Probably a bad PSU. I would (if you can) RMA that one and get another. Corsair is great with returns.

I HIGHLY doubt that your PSU is malfunctioning, as you bought the best PSU that money can buy. There is always that very slim chance that it could be malfunctioning though. I have an AX860i, so I'm familiar with the AX series. The PSU have a self-test button. When you press the self-test button, does the PSU begin to operate as it should?

I think it would be a lot of hassle to return it, I got the entire rig on finance from Scan.co.uk. and Dustin, it's working now and I'm thankful. I shall have a look tomorrow, I have very poor lighting in my room. Thanks so much for the help guys! I'm not gonna pick a solution just yet in case it happens again.

I'm having exactly the same problem currently. I strongly believe it's due to my AX760. Barking Krab did you ever have any problems again with your psu or is it still running fine?

Hi dude, it's since happened perhaps once or twice, my usual fix is just open it up and wiggle the wires around the PSU. I think the issue isn't the PSU itself but perhaps the wires going in to it. If this doesn't work, re-plug all the wires going to the PSU and this might fix the problem.

Not a very technical answer but it seems to work, however I have no idea of the reason for the random shutdowns.

Thanks a lot for the reply. My AX760 for some reason only seems to have a problem turning on or suddenly cutting off after it has been switched off for a long period of time. I usually switch it off when I know I won't be at home for a while. It seems to run perfectly fine under regular use. I'll keep an eye out for random shutdowns though. If it gets worse i'll RMA it I still have a few years on my warranty. Shipping is way to costly for me here in the Caribbean otherwise I'd send it in immediately. I just wish someone was able to explain why it has a problem after being switched off for long periods.
