For over 2 years now, I have 2 x GTX 980 SC from EVGA in SLi. I had the rig built just for Mass Effect 3 Andromeda. They are doing ok but getting really noisy with the fan when playing COD WW2 multiplayer. I am thinking of upgrading it to 2 x 1070 ti in SLi, or should I wait for the next gen GTX 1180 ti? By the way, I have an EVGA 1200 PSU. Power is not an issue. And the mining causing the price hype to 1080ti does not convince me to get 1080ti even when I can only get one card.

Edit: Ok, I thought just throw a spanner in there... What about getting 2 x 1080 instead 2 x 1070 Ti because they are the same price and 1080 has a higher spec. Or am I talking gibberish?

Solution
I have a Galax GTX 1070 TI Exoc white and alone does a great job. Go 1070 TI, save money, add another card later after next gen releases in summer
I may be wrong but I have been using PC's since the 1980's and these are my Policies towards Tech.

Never delay your bliss.

1. A GPU in the hand is worth 2x SLI in the bush.
What is available now is a known quantity verified by independent testing.
The performance of a 1180 is vaporware. A fantasy. Marketing hype.
Next years tech is rarely more than a few percentage points better than what you can buy right now.

2. Next years tech is frequently late.
Companies deliberately make optimistic predictions about when the next new awesome thing is coming out.
That way, people on the Hype Train will wait and be locked into the manufacturers ecosystem before they spend any money.
They over promise and under deliver.

3. If you buy the tech available now you don't have to have to pay the early adopters tax.
Next years tech will be more expensive and you have to deal with bugs and unstable drivers.
If you decide to pay the early adopters tax, don't regret it.
Now matter what PC component I have ever bought, a month later, I see it's available cheaper.
If I worried about that I would lose my mind. Pay through the nose and don't look back.

4. If you want to have fun now - Just Do It!

I play the opposite of the waiting game.
When guys like you buy the next new great thing, I buy your used tech from last year at a discount.
And I am perfectly happy with a PC that is 5% slower than what you have, which costs 100% more.

Alexoferith If I were you, I'd wait for the release of the GTX 1180; I'm guessing the 1180 Ti will come 10 months later, if history is any indicator. I would wait for the 1180 and then watch professional comparisons on YouTube between a single 1180 and two 980's in SLI. That is what I would do.

i'd say 1070ti now.

i think the best case scenario for gtx1180ti is volta like chip with driver tweaks. i would say the performance of the 1180ti purely depends on AMD's counter offer (remember kabylake and skylake?) unless AMD is making something so outrageously good, there is very little incentives for nvidia to give you a big boost. all that is a big if.

Anyhow, the performance of 1070ti is real, 1180ti is not. if you need upgrade then upgrade to take the full pleasure of the hardware.
