^ you forgot the monitor, thats why he didnt go for the 980Ti or a M.2 drive. The 980 will be sufficient and a good SSD for your OS will be plenty. The first build you have looks nice except definitely a different PSU. Evga 650w would be better.

I didn't include a monitor on purpose. I generally don't because displays have a lot more factors that go into them, and most people generally don't include them in the budget. You can't just select a monitor and say "OK, go with this one" - it doesn't work that way. There's a number of factors like resolutions and refresh rates that go into what monitor you choose. And if you're using this PC for design purposes, designers can be incredibly picky about the monitors that they select. For 1080P a 980Ti is probably overkill anyways, you could probably drop that to a 970 and then invest the difference in the displays.
