I need some advice.
I had originally planned on building me a new computer when the new Pascal GPUs are released in 2016. From all I have read these cards will see a large boost to 4k gaming as well as be good for the new VR tech out next year.
Next year CPUs will also introduce more cores. For example the i7-6950X will have 10 cores. Currently this means little for hard core gamers as the graphics cards are the most important aspect for gaming builds. Will this trend stay the same with DirectX 12.
Direct X 12 reads as a major change on what will be the best type of CPU. Going to quote from an article by Brad Chacos from PCWorld.
"The API’s highlight feature will essentially let games handle CPU utilization more efficiently, better balancing loads between multiple cores rather than dumping the bulk of the work on a single core. Games will also have reduced GPU overhead, and less overhead means more speed."
This sounds like cores will have a bigger impact on gaming then they currently do. Combine Pascal, with 8 or 10 Core CPU and DIrectx 12 it sounds like a major jump in tech.
I know the futility of waiting for future hardware and normally would never think about it. I had budgeted a new computer next year as my current PC should have handled everything fine until than. The problem is my motherboard was damaged during cleaning and I need to decide what to do.
I am now debating on building a high end gaming PC now or just upgrading a cheap motherboard/cpu/os and do my complete rebuild next year. I rather spend a few hundred now and 4k next year instead of 4k now and see massive performance boost in mid 2016.
