[SOLVED] 2020 - 100% CPU Usage until i open taskmanager, as soon as i close it again.

My new ASUS ROG-STRIX laptop, has the weird problem of the CPU rising to 100% even when nothing is running. I open the task manager and notice for a split second that the CPU usage is very high at around 100%. When i close taskmanager, it drops down to around 0% again. I know i've had malware on the PC, but have identified and cleaned it with Spyhunter 5 and AVG deep scan. The problem still persists though. I've read that it can be a "mining malware" or a malware that conceals itself somehow. I'm very concerned. How can i fix this?

I would check CPU usage with a third party application that you keep active constantly to see if it is a constant thing or not. Opening Task manager can momentarily cause high CPU usage if several of my PCs (which are clean) are any indication. If you find that the CPU does max out all the time, a Windows reinstall might be the single best way to go.

Also since this is a laptop your fans should be a big indication. If they are cranking up and staying there for long periods while you are sitting idle, then something is certainly amiss. If it remains at idle speeds you're probably ok.

Nothing at all here to be concerned about. Task Manager is a rather crude tool and those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Scan with malwarebytes antimalware, and also better do a reset of ur system...
And also while u open task manager, its normal for the cpu utilization to be high all of a sudden but then it shud normalize after a few seconds...

If the problem is not actually a problem and just Task Manager being a dunce you'll have caused a Windows reinstall and all the associated work along with it, for nothing. It would be better to diagnose the issue than to jump to a solution without understanding the problem, if there even is one.

Thanks for the quick replies folks.

I have tried malwarebytes scan and such, not finding any threats. The thing is that i have experienced my fans going crazy without anything running and my computer temperature rising alot. That's why i was worried. A reset or reinstallation of windows would maybe be extreme but i will try it, if the problem persists.

I did get a reply on another forum, that it could be a cryptominer virus though. Having doubts what to believe..

I tend to delete anti-malware/virus after a scan as it can hog resources especially when you fire up a simple web page, unless you really need real time protection I find windows defender to be sufficient. Another thing that can hog resources is that windows delivery thing where you upload windows updates to other people unless you turn it off in the settings.

I have had success with Advanced System care it has found and removed issues for me many times. Use the free version.... Do not let it change your registry! Unless you are willing to fix it with your Original disk after! When you are done with the scan and fix just remove it, as it is a resource hog and doesnt need to be left installed.

Some mining-related malware will indeed hide itself when task manager is opened...; hearing fans going overtime until Task Manager is open is exactly what would be expected in such a scenario...

Perhaps open SysInternals' Process Explorer instead....; you might be able to catch the name of the process, and, if lucky, might be able to track it down, suspend/delete it..

Why? the issue seems to be that Task Manager show 100% CPU utilizations for a split second then goes back to normal. Task Manager is a crude tool as a poster above stated - There is no real problem here. No need to download this, or download the free version of this, or reinstall Windows. And if you got a trojan bitcoin miner, you might want to get something like Malware Bytes and something like Kaspersky Internet Security - both. Getting a trojan, or any malware speaks to your inept skills and questionable web sites you visit.
