I have some very big issue.. I recently bought a RX 470 XFX, and a new power supply unit Coolermaster B500 ver2, but that has a 24 pin motherboard atx connector.. I just found out my motherboard has a 14pin connector... But i've seen some "solutions" like cables that make a 24pin go to a 14pin.. But is that actually safe to use? Or can it burn your motherboard or something... Thanks in advance for the help

Solution

Oh god that's a scummy company... desiccants right in the case? Hell, they are putting a hell of a lot of stress on the CPU cooler mount with that hood too

Well, So a while back i bought a medion computer... I am running a i3-4160 in combination with a gtx 750 1gb. 8gigs of ram.. And wellp that's most of it.. It runs just fine but i wanted an upgrade.. But knowing this i'll probably need to get a new motherboard as well

If it's something that new it should work, but you'll need to find an appropriate adapter for the motherboard. I haven't seen 14pin in decades, so I was expecting a pentium era CPU... Be very careful, odd pinouts like that usually mean one wrong move will fry everything

I don't want to risk frying everything.. since that'll make stuff even more expensive

Problem is, my board isn't lenovo.. actually not sure what it is to be honest.. is there anyway i can confirm what it is?

Pc: Medion Akoya p2320 (MD 8894)
motherboard via Cpu-z: Manufacterer: Medion Model: H81H3-EM2 Chipset: Haswell Southbridge: H81

might as well upgrade than i think.. just need to find a decently priced not too expensive compatible motherboard..

Solution

well.. Desiccants (?) anyway my cpu never comes above 50 degrees actually.. But yeah.. i'll just need to get a new motherboard but the struggle is, what about my version of windows 10..? And what about the form factor of the motherboard?

Use a microsoft account and upgrade to 1607, then you shouldn't have an issue

I don't fully understand what you mean. sorry. could you explain?

Your Windows license is most likely an OEM license, which means you CANNOT use it on a new motherboard. The only exception is with Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607), where they added the ability to transfer for cases like yours. You must be logged into a Microsoft account on that computer and have upgraded to the newest version (1607), and only after that can you move to a new motherboard

So since i have to log-in everytime with my windows account it's already linked (or so i read) and i only have to update (not sure) before i put a new motherboard in so that i can keep my windows?

Here's a good primer http://www.windowscentral.com/how-re-activate-windows-10-after-hardware-change

Hm... still not all too sure.. but i cant seem to add an account where that site tells me too add one...

I as well have a medion pc with the H81H3-EM2 motherboard. Further i have: i5-4460, 8gb ddr3 ram, GTX 750 1GB, 350 watt PSU. I also want to upgrade my Graphics card but then i need a new PSU. Is it possible to do this with the 14pin connector on the motherboard?

Well I decided to go for the safe option and ordered a new motherboard as well.. Didn't want to risk frying stuff which can happen with such a cable.

Ok, thanks for the reply!

I got myself the Gigabyte H81M-HD3 rev 2.0 / http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5248#ov Quite a fine motherboard in my opinion c:

Sidenote*: A new psu is probably needed anyway since you want a proper gpu i suppose, and in that case it's the best option to go for a newer motherboard as well (My opinion)

Is it easy to replace the motherboard? is it possible in the same case? Thanks btw for the info 😀
