240 Hz Monitor Stuck on 60 Hz

I have read multiple posts regarding this topic and have tried every recommended approach.

I have a Dell 25 aw2518hf (a 240 Hz monitor equipped with AMD's Freesync) and also just bought an Alienware Aurora R7 which came with an NVIDIA GTX GeForce 1070.

I have learned that NVIDIA's G-Sync is not compatible with my Freesync monitor, and I am okay with that.

I just need to get my monitor to actually run at 144+Hz. I have updated all of my drivers. I am using the HDMI cord that came with my monitor, there are no other plug-ins for other kinds of cords on the monitor.

When I go to NVIDIA Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Refresh Rate, 60hz is the maximum available. I cannot use a different kind of cord because the monitor only has HDMI ports.

I am kind of a PC dummy, so any help would be appreciated in helping me get my refresh rate over 60.

It'll depend on the implementation in the monitor. Although the R7 & monitor should both be HDMI 2.0 enabled, that's no guarantee of certain refresh rates.

DisplayPort would be an option for the monitor too, and is probably your safest bet for >120Hz

According to the Dell website, that monitor has a DisplayPort connector. Did the monitor not ship with a DisplayPort Cable?

Just to be clear... when you go to the NVIDIA control panel / Change Resolution /

Click on CHANGE RESOLUTION...... for

PC 1920 x 1080

may need to scroll down to see your resolution options.
