Ok so i have a Xeon e3 1231v3 and i was wondering if it would be able to run ram at 2400mhz with xmp enabled. I looked around, but some said yes it will work, and some said it wouldnt. So my question is will it work at the 2400mhz speed or should i buy 1600mhz ram for a few $$ less? Also yes i have a z97 mobo. I know its unnecessary but i got it on sale for cheap.

It depends on the individual CPU and how strong it's MC is, the strength of the MC (memory controller) can vary quite a bit from 1 CPU to another of the same model, i.e. I've seen 6600Ks thant can barely run 2666 DRAM at stock where mine easily runs 3000 at stock

Ah, so really... It's just the silicon lottery all over again?
