2500k still good choice ?

i'm 14 , i have my birthday in a few weeks as well as Christmas , i have asked for money and some game etc . i was hoping on upgrading to a 2500k 16 gb ddr3 and and new mobo for it , since i will cost about £250 but i have another upgrade route which is coffee lake , it will cost me £600 . is it worth the price increase for the performance?

+1 to Matt's list, I will recommend Ryzen 1600 for its better value and you may want to add a cooler to I5-8400 like evo 212. thank you i will see how much i get for christmas if i get enough ima go for the 8400 build but if not i will fall back to the 2500k , also what is the performance boost from a a10 7860k to a 2500k or a 8400 ? if you know i dont know how to work it out

^ well on the £400 bracket I'd go ryzen over the 8400 personally because (if you didn't notice) that ryzen build has 16gb ram in for not that much more money than the Intel.

With Xmas approaching also expect another £10-15 to drop off ryzen prices because of the new competition from intels coffee lake chips.

I would not expect any price deduction on the Intel chips at all because of demand.

2500k ??? I would not entertain it mate at all , its increasingly hard to find decent boards for that socket , you'll probably ens up with a skanky h61 board for £60-70 & at stock speeds the sandy/ivy chips are nowhere near as good as you would believe nowadays.

If you want value for money go straight for the ryzen 1400 , its not a chip I recommended on release because it was priced too closely to the 1500x & 1600.
At £123 though its blistering value, yeah you need to overclock it a little but at 3.8/3.9 it'll match a kaby lake i5 but has hyper threading too.
