2GB VRAM good enough for every current game?

I've asked this here before, but I want just want a general consensus. Will games like Crysis 3, Batman AC, Far cry 3, etc max 2GB and kill the FPS? Or do they take up under 2gb? Also, how long until games will take up over 2gb?

Pretty sure the general consensus is that more VRAM in gaming situations is for multi-monitor setups.

that at this point is a subjective. it will depend on the rest of the system. the most games use 1.5GB max until AA is applied, that is when the ram gets eaten up. So if the 2GB card doesn't have the ability to run AA past the max settings of the game you will never hit the 2GB max of that card.

That depends on lots of factors. Such as, what resolution will you be playing in, single/multi-monitor gaming, amount of details add in the game (Anti-Aliasing, etc.) Graphics settings (Low-Ultra), etc.

Oops, sorry. I will be playing at 1080p on a single monitor at Ultra. AA, I don't know, it depends on the game. For games like Crysis 3, probably a low level of AA. This is with a GTX 680.

Should be able to play Crysis 3 at ultra settings atleast 30 FPS even with AA on a GTX 680.

for 1080p and below, 2GB is enough for all current games. Crysis 3 has demonstrated to just about fill up 2GB at 1080p, and that game is a monster so we can safely assume that all games in the next 6months - 1 year will use 2GB or less of VRam.

However, it'll be hard to predict what console ports for the next generation of consoles will require

But what about VRAM? 2gb good for that? Also, I probably won't go too high with AA because I want to have near 60 FPS, as I've seen in the beta videos with a 680.

Beyond 1GB, AA is the biggest consumer of VRAM, when you're not using AA, 2gb will be plenty. you'll probably be hitting 1.5GB of VRAM usage max on crysis 3

I also forgot to ask, does a 4gb card run slower than a 2gb card? I've heard people say that a lot and I'm curious.

VRAM isn't always the problem. 2GB should be enough for most games for today like vmem said. My cousin has a m17x laptop with a i7 CPU, GTX 680M, and 16GB of 1866 MHz RAM. He plays on high settings about 60 FPS, but on ultra its about 25-40 FPS depends on the situation. Based on this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpQwGqG9doA This guy plays Crysis 3 Beta with a GTX 680, maxed out Crysis 3 with 4x SMAA at 45 FPS, but it can be different with the release of the Crysis 3 comparing to beta.

2GB is fine. With the exception of modded Skyrim, Crysis 3 is the new king of VRam usage:
