2tb HDD showing as 3.1tb

Hi

I am trying to help my father out he had a extended partition and says he tried to get rid off the extended but now it won't show the partitions other than xp in my computer and as you see on disc manager it is showing a 1.5tb partition and a 1.2 tb extended partition. Now I was going to delete the extended and hope his data woukd be in the 1.5tb partition and windows hasn't done it properly but im not sure and it is alot of important data and photos of me growing up and my children so his grandchildren growing up. Can any one shed any advice as I have never really dealt with extended partitions.

Your best bet is to purchase an external hard drive and back up everything you need. Changing around partitions can mess with the data inside you could even lose all of it.

That's great if I could access the files inside that's what I said windows is not seeing it only the xp partition.

I couldn't even clone it because firstly it is showing as 3.1tb and secondly I know there shouldn't be that much on there. It is only a 2tb hard drive. It is like the extended partition can be deleted and hopefully the 1.5tb partition will come to live

Try connecting only that hard drive with xp on it and it should show your files in that extended partition. Upload all of your important files to a cloud site like google drive

After that is done, reconnect the hard drives the way you want it to be and format it if you want from there
