Question 2TB internal hdd thickness

Hi,

i found a cheap 2tb external HDD so i'm thinking about buying it and replace it with the 1tb internal hdd i have in my laptop GL553vd, i'm wondering, what's the max HDD height for it ?

can i put 2 tb hdd in it ? or it's thicker and it will not fit ?

Generally, a laptop size HDD will be 9.5mm in height. Only the very very large capacity ones are thicker, 15mm.
And then slimmer ones are 7mm...ones that go in ultrabooks or some SSD's.

Your 2TB should fit. But knowing the specific drive would dispel all fears.

Not all external drives can be dismantled and use the drive inside as an internal.
Sometimes, the USB SATA bridge is part of the PCB, and the drive does not expose regular SATA connections.

I'd have to see one taken apart to verify.

It states 7mm for the actual drive. The 2TB might be 9.5mm.
But no real pics of the actual connections, once all the gunk is removed.

The 2tb external HDD i found is for $60 and it's in good condition, also i have 960 evo nvme so i don't care that much for the speed of the hdd

Unknown. Find the service manual for this laptop, and it will probably tell you the specific thickness.

That 850 EVO in there is 7mm. Unknown if they're using a spacer in that space.
