Until today, I was running 2x4GB HyperX Fury RAM in dual channel and one of my friends needed a better CPU cooler for overclocking and it so happened I had a spare Evo 212 which I traded it with him for a stick of HyperX Fury 4GB stick. I decided to put in my rig and right now I'm running 3x4GB, I was wondering if I would get better performance if I just used 2x4GB in dual channel or 3x4GB, I do play games like GTA V and PUBG so I think the extra ram would come in handy but my board only supports dual channel and not quad. I would eventually also get another 4GB stick so I can bring the total to 16GB which I think is a good number for gaming as of today.

Solution
3x4gb is better because of flex mode. The 2x4gb you would otherwise have is still in dual and the additional is in single. Although slower than if it were all in dual, the performance issues with not having enough ram is a lot worse.
