3.5mm to XLR

I recently bought a PA Speaker from JBL. I originally thought I'd connect it to Bluetooth with ease and play music. However, I found that it uses an XLR Cable. [Picture Provided] I proceeded to buy an XLR Cable to 3.5mm and plug it into my phone to play music. HOWEVER, I get the cable, plug it into my phone, play a song, and nothing. By now, I've given up and wasted this much money for nothing. I need help on playing music through this XLR port. Is there anything else I need to buy in order for it work?

you are likely trying to connect up to the center (male) port on the back of the speaker. if you read the manual (here http://www.jblpro.com/ProductAttachments/EON610_Datasheet_082014_CMYK.pdf for reference) you will note that this is not an input but is meant for daisy chaining to additional speakers. the cable you bought was wrong and you likely could have avoided this by reading the manual.

the correct inputs are the (female) combination xlr 1/4 jacks to the left and the right of this speaker.

now, i am not greatly familiar with speakers of the nature you are dealing with though i do know that many professional speakers used balanced inputs. (watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4Iynh4rcc if you do not know the difference) so you may not be able to go directly from source (pc or phone) to speaker and may need a box in between to convert to a balanced signal. based on the specs page http://www.jblpro.com/ProductAttachments/EON610_SpecSheet_4%2028%2015.pdf it lists balanced connectors.

Okay, so I recently bought a 1.4 inch to 3.5mm connector and plugged it into the speaker. It started to give off some sound finally! However, it would lose signal and the music would play very softly. If I jiggled the wire in a certain place and kept it there, the speaker would play the music beautifully. I kinda solved my problem, but is there a way to eliminate the problem of wiggling the wire each time to get the speaker to keep its full signal to the phone or PC?
