3 missing cores on quad core - why ?

I own an Asus N53SV notebook with an i7-2630QM that is now registering only a single core when I run Core-Temp or Intel's Processor Tool.
I do know that this notebook generates a lot of heat. Could this be the culprit behind the missing cores ? Can I recover them ? If so, how ?
Thanks,
Travis

Why don't you just get intl bios and see if single core usage is enabled. If so disable it.
Also get a good cooling pad so that your laptop doesn't burn. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1YH1GV2730&cm_re=cooler_master_laptop_cooler-_-34-982-222-_-Product THis is a good one.

Thanks, I will look into that cooling pad. When you specify "intl bios" do you mean look into my BIOS ? I looked into my BIOS but could find no such setting for single core usage.
