I have a budget of $30-40 for a PSU, here are the contestants that available in my country at the $30-40 price range:

EVGA 400w @$33
Corsair VS450 @41
Seasonic Eco 430w @46

I heard that Corsair VS450 has a low quality, and the CXM450 is currently available for $65 in my country so I don't think I will pick CXM450. So do you think which one is the best deal? I need an enlightenment, Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with a SeaSonic 430W in a build like this. Yes, it's a discrete GPU, but from a power standpoint, just barely considering how much these cards sip power. It's not a Destroy Your Rig PSU by any means, even though I don't think it'll last 10 years in most cases. But given the specifics of the poster's situation, I think it likely that replacing a PSU in two years may be easier than buying a more expensive one right now; he's a student without a job right now.

I'm a bit of a power supply snob too, but this is just a situation in which we can't tell someone to simply put a little more money and get a better PSU.

Corsair CX450, Corsair CX450M, be Quiet Pure Power 10 400/500W, be Quiet System Power 9 400/500, Xilence Performane A+, FSP "Hexa 85+" (do not confuse with the regular Hexa), Corsair Vengeance, Cooler Master MasterWatt (not lite), Cooler Master GM are some budget options, all much better the three mentioned.

We aren't even to that point yet.

Have to get past the budget 1st or the whole conversation isn't worth it.

Need to raise it to a realistic range.

Need to raise the PSU budget if you care about what you are building.

Buy a decent one and buy it once.

Cheap out and you will end up buying 2 and spending a lot more.

The VS 450. BUT Amazon dumps multiple products reviews into one skewing the results. Just be aware that you can do much better. Are you working? I recently suggested making a relatively small budget increase but then the OP was still in school and didn't have any way to make more money. I applied some patience, had to wait 9 months while I was saving money but I got the GFX card I wanted. I also purchased a higher end Gold rated PSU. It'll always stay below 80%( the VS 450) load so at least that's a plus.

The issue is none of the 1st 3 will last very long.

Even the Seasonic ECO is not all that great.

The other 2 are borderline.

Seasonic eco 430w = XFX TS = Hydance CX, all the same unit, not to be confused with the Hydance CT or XFX XT which are basically no better than the Evga W1 series. The Corsair VS is bottom line Corsair, somewhere slightly worse than the Seasonic eco but still better than the W1. Neither the Seasonic or the Corsair have been known to be pc killers, the Evga W1 is a different story.

For perspective, when Seasonic has a review, they get newegg to ship a unit to the reviewer, it's not a cherry picked unit, but one you'd buy off a shelf. That alone would get my vote of confidence in their platforms.

Never said they were great but hey are also not complete system killing garbage And in many places on a budget the Seasonic Eco is about the best you'll find with out paying out the ear.

What I'm taking issue with is those tell the OP they will kill his rig. The chances of that happening with those budget units is slim. If i had to wager a guess the Op could likely get ~ a year out of the Evga or the Corsair and ~3 out of the ECO assuming they are not run hot and stressed heavily and the proposed specs are not going to pull a a heavy load.

The ECO is fine for a very basic box with no GPU like a low end workstation.

For anything else a step up to one of the better lines is highly recommended

The ECO is fine for a VERY basic box using integrated GPU and the like.


More than that it's good to move into a higher grade unit.

The other two we see way too many of those in problem systems here, way too many... I wouldn't put either one of them in anything that even looked like a PC.

While I agree that raising the budget for psu would be the best idea, none of those are going to pose any real risks with those parts.

Of course I would rather pay an extra $15-10 now and have it last years and years than pay $45 now and still have to spend another $60ish in a year or two for a new one.

Out of the 3, if you can't possibly spend more, get the Seasonic.

Totally agree. People have commented before on this forum saying they would cause fires and blow up a computer. Sorry to say these people just think everyone can afford the best.
It's like saying, if you don't Rolls Royce, then you shouldn't buy a car. Idiotic people.

The PSU's he lists are still good, although if (like everything) the more money you spend generally the better something is, seems to be what the people here miss.

Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a Western Country and get paid Western money. Where I live, the minimum wage is $10 a day - imagine that, trying to save up for a $60 PSU - that's 6 days of work without eating/drinking.

How many Western Waged people would spend 6 days of wages on 1 PSU?

Buying one good PSU or having to buy 2 of them because the 1st one popped?

And then there is the PSU taking out hardware like GPU's mainly, we do see that a lot here on the forums.

Hardware failing is not Country specific.

We aren't telling them to spend $150 to $200 or more on a PSU. That's what the best costs.

Just telling him to move into a good budget unit.

Oh yeah here in the US we all like in $5 Million homes and make $500,000 a year and have live in maid in our mansions.....

A lot of us have to save up money to get what we want.

Deposable income, that's the key here, no matter what Country someone lives in it all comes down to that.


I know people who would argue with you over less than $20, like that $20 was a Million. 😉

Computer hardware prices in my country are insane, it's about 60-100% more than average U.S. or western prices. For example, you can only afford an EVGA 430 for the money you paid for CXM450 in U.S. / Western countries. That's why it's sucks
