$300 MOBO, CPU, and Case

I'm my first computer and was wondering what the best mobo cpu combo was out there, i was looking at an i5 and a z97 but not sure what do get, also i have a 500w psu and a R9 270 to base this off. also i need a case so if i go a bit higher its okay but i do not wanna break 400, 350 preferably.
