So i am looking to upgrade my old-ish 24" LG gaming monitor. I have a strict budget of $300. The two best i can find in that price-range are (w/ freesync) the LG-24UD58-B and (w/out freesync) the ASUS PB277Q.
I have a MSI Gaming X 480 8G. I play quite a few AAA titles, but i am a diverse gamer so lots of other stuff too. Thus far i have been able to max most games out. I am now looking to push the card a bit more with a higher resolution monitor. Won't be looking to upgrade gpu for at least another 2 years.

Make sure you see some similar types of monitors in person. For instance, a 24" 4k monitor? The Asus, 27" 1440p, makes more sense to me. Even then you have the small issue of a 480 not really being a GPU for 1440p. Have you considered 'pushing' the 480 by going with a high refresh rate 1080p monitor?

my current monitor does have a 144hz refresh rate. this is me now: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025009
that's why i was particularly interested in a higher res monitor. i havent really read too much from others who have tried gaming at 2k or 4k with the 480. maybe i should do that first. are you suggesting that i might phase myself out of high fps gaming by upgading too much?

now that is interesting. i did not see that in my brief search for a new monitor. also, i have heard thats a good game, like an open-world Division, right? except set in the desert or something. ill have to look more closely at this one.
