Since GPUs are available again I'm super stoked to get one, but I feel like I'm getting some gear lust setting in as well. I was set on the 3060ti last year, now I'm wondering if I would be just as happy with saving some cash a 3060, and the flipside is would I be happier shelling out some for for a 3070 but also if my current specs can utilize such a card properly. Currently running a RX570 4GB.

Ryzen 5 2600
Asrock B450M Pro4
Antec Earthwatts Pro 650W
16 GB Gskill 3200

ASUS TUF Gaming 1440 27" Monitor

Solution
As someone who has had both cards 3060ti and rx 570

Your current cpu is not powerful enough to fully use the 3060ti. It can however be carried over when the 5 series AMD cpus gets cheap likely around xmas/Black friday.

How much cash are you saving? I've not had a 3060, but the 3060ti was just shy of amazing. From the gpu hierarchy list here on toms

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

The ti version unlike many other TI is a totally different class of card than the base model. Unless you are saving 60 dollars I wouldn't bother.

As for the 3070.. also from that list you can see, its not that much better for gaming than the 3060ti.

If you can save a lot of money, the 3060 doesnt appear to be a slouch...

Im saying outright get the 3060ti @ 1080P the 3070 is hardly better making it a poor buy.

I sold my 3060ti for the large premium I was able to get having come into a 1070ti which better suited my system.

3060ti and a 5 series cpu around xmas is gonna keep your setup current at least until the next consoles come out.

"Utilizing a card properly" depends on what you want out of it. Do you want high performance period? Then sure, the CPU could be holding things back depending on the game. Do you want to be able to crank up the quality settings with a FPS goal of 60 FPS on average? Then sure, go ahead and get a video card upgrade (I'd say the RTX 3060 Ti). If you want both? Then well, you're going to have to upgrade both the CPU and GPU. Or if you want to stagger the upgrades, get a new video card now, then enjoy the extra performance bump later when you move to a new CPU.

Yes I'm looking for the performance first and foremost 60+ FPS, I want the eye candy but realize current and future games won't be on ultra, but older ones (GTA5 Far Cry5) I'd expect to be able to max.
I'd like to utilize my monitor and play most at 1440. 1080 is not a big deal either.
I doubt I'll upgrade that CPU, cause then I'll want to upgrade the Mobo to get pcie4, then my case will be needing an upgrade. Then again I might chuck in a R7 down the road if I can't afford a new rig at the time. But right now it's not the plan.

And I mean really at the end of the day I'm very happy playing games with my 570 and it's not till I start counting frames and comparing that I feel like it's outdated. I just don't know any better, came from a PS4 to that system so I think it looks great.

I guess my question is where the CPU bottleneck would come into play between those GPU models.

A 3060ti is not exactly far behind the 3070. Also a 3070, for 1080p isn't really overkill either, especially with a high refresh panel. Cyberpunk may not be the most popular game in the world, but it is telling on how demanding future titles will be. You do not buy for today, you buy with the future in mind, or you are wasting money.

Also there are 360hz monitors out there, at 1080p, targeted at competitive FPS gamers. Just because you don't think you have a use for something, doesn't mean that there are people that don't.

As of right now in Canada a 3060 is around $600 and the ti around $800 give or take, prices are still kind of all over the place. Basically a $200-$300 jump between each card 3060>3060ti>3070.

Im not so sure its worth 200 dollars more but I guess thats the market right now, in any case vs the 570 (which I thought was great even after my upgrade) this will be an entirely new experience.

If you are trying to play 1440p 144Hz, then you can use a more powerful GPU. The CPU will matter less when you use a higher resolution. I currently have a Ryzen 5 2600X and an RTX 3060ti. It is capable of 1080p High/Ultra between 80-140 FPS in most games. I would have to go back and check some different games for real numbers, but a more powerful GPU would be beneficial for 1440p 144Hz. That said, if the 570 is working fine for now, keep it until prices are normal. They are going down, but are not normal yet.

Thank you, that's really good to know.
Yeah the 570 is still fine to be honest. I'm just playing Elden Ring and it set it self to high, I have no complaints. Considering a 580 is listed in the minimum requirements.

I'm more worried I won't find one in the future because who knows what it will bring. Seems like more shortages and shipping woes are pretty damn likely given all the <Mod Edit> going down everywhere.

what model 570 do you have? Heavily overclocked they match a 590, on that note, I had a 570 nitro+ a great overclocking model and it was a bumb.
