Question 3080 or 4070

Hi,

I know this has been asked before but couldnt find a clear answer regarding to my hardware.

I have installed an Asus 3080 Strix OC 10GB card and have just aquired an Asus 4070 OC 12GB card.

Looking at the benchmarks for the 3080 and the 4070 they seem closely matched, but cant find a comparrison with the strix card.

I am Running 1080p and not looking to run anything higher for the next few years into my next system build and go 4k.

My system as it stands for the other components are below.

Intel 11700K with AIO Corsair cooler
Strix Z590E Gaming
Corsair dominator 32GB
Corsair 1000W gold
Corsair MP600 pro NVME

Ok, so what's the question, because I don't see an actual question in there anywhere?

If the question is which card performs better and is the better choice to use, well, newer is generally better since newer cards generally support newer technologies and APIs that older cards might not. Based strictly on performance testing, the RTX 4070 seems to be slightly better in both 2D and 3D performance.

Guess they're asking how different AIB models with higher clocks than reference (3080 Founders) or the card in whichever benchmark they saw compares to their Strix 3080 and how that would stack up against 4070 (Founders?).

Go with the RTX 4070.

• It has 12 GB of VRAM vs 10 GB for the 3080
• It has a 200 watt TGP vs 320 watts for the 3080, so more power efficient.
• It supports Frame Generation

The question was in the header! 3080 or 4070.

If both cards were stock I would of been going for the 4070 but i wanted opinions on the 3080 strix variant vs the stock asus 4070.

I appreciate the link but I was just after opinions.

Well, nobody is going to be able to tell you that because none of the legitimate comparison sites have specific card models and the ones that do, are more than just questionable in terms of quality and accuracy. And for regular people, in all the world the chances of finding even one person, out of all the people, that just happens to have upgraded from the exact card model you want compared, to a stock 4070 from that Strix card, is pretty unrealistically small. The best comparison is likely what I gave you already and in light of the fact that the Strix is an OC model that gets about 5-7% better performance than the stock card, you could still say that their performance is going to be about equal minus the fact that the newer card likely supports some things that the older one probably does not, which might or might not make it of more value to you. Only you can answer that.

I know the comparrsion sites have only tested the stock variants vs each other and not the strix as i mentioned in the original post.

I wasnt looking for someone that had swapped out a 3080 strix for a stock 4070 to tell me the differance, i know that is small but some people on this forum would know of the performace difference of my hardware meaning the 3080 strix. seems you know already that its 5-7% appox on the stock which is nice but not enough to keep it over the 4070.
