30fps vs 60fps in gaming

Solution
Yeah, its easy to see. Especially after you have gotten used to playing at 60 FPS, and suddenly things that were smooth are jerking slightly. Sometimes even stuttering. There are some games that do play well at 30 FPS. And there are games that really need more than 60 to play real well. But nearly all games do fine at exactly 60 FPS. Mainly because that is what the developers aimed for, and so that is where it looks best.

I feel like 144hz is truly silky smooth and 60 is smooth and 30 is meh its playable but idk.

Let's call 144 ultra smooth, I always called 60 silk smooth, haha. The point I was trying to make though is that if it's constantly 30 FPS, it's very hard to tell, however a lot of console titles which people use to compare with tend to drop below 30, and so it's very obvious, though 30 gets a punch from the community. 30 on console and 30 on PC is also very different, even if you're using a controller on both. And, we're all different so it's just preference. There is no right or wrong here. Won't matter if you play on 30 though, your brain will eventually make things feel a lot smoother, you'll start predicting without noticing.

Damn you guys and your low FFR tolerances. 30 FPS looks like someone is smearing frames across my screen really slowly. Can't even play Bloodbourne because it looks like a blurry mess.

I learned my lesson and only buy console games with 60fps and good console games, so I have a total of three console games yay.

It seriously depends on the game. Most of the time, you can play at 30 FPS. Obviously 60 is better. But what so many of us that have money forget is that millions of gamers are running on very, very, very low end hardware. Stuff that we called low end almost a decade ago. And they are playing games like CS:GO, League of Legends, older versions of GTA, and so on, and their cards are good enough at 30 FPS.

I'm not rich. Far from it. Especially now that I have retired. But I like to play at 60 FPS too. Many of us do. When I built this box back in May of last year, I had to make choices on what to buy. I decided to spend a little more on a IPS panel monitor, and a 1TB SSD, over several other things. 15 months later, I have pretty satisfied with the choices I made.

Next year, I may decide to upgrade my video card and monitor.. And maybe even go for 4K gaming, which so far at least, it limited to 60 Hertz. Maybe if I wait another year, there might be 4K gaming at 120Hz... Maybe.
