I own a Lenovo Legion Y540 Gaming Laptop with 8 gb of pre-installed memory clocked at 2666mhz. I found a deal where I'm getting a 3200mhz dimm $13 cheaper the 2666mhz one. I wanted to ask whether the 3200mhz dimm would work with my pre-installed one in dual channel mode. I read somewhere that it can be downclocked using an xmp but I'm not sure if my bios will support xmp or not. Does it downclock automatically?
Help would be appreciated.
Thank you in Advance

DDR4 is really picky and finicky from what I've seen in threads here. You could try it, but be sure to have a good return policy in case it doesn't work well.

In theory the faster ram will be down clocked to the speed of the slower ram.
You might want to get the latest bios before trying this.
