[SOLVED] 32GB DDR4 3200 or 16GB DDR4 3600 ?

Hi everyone

Here's my current config :

PSU Corsair CV550
MSI Z490 Gaming Plus
I5 10600KF
16GB DDR4 2400 CL16
GTX 1060 6GB

I want to upgrade my DDR. With my budget I can have in CL16 :
32gb in 3200 or 16gb in 3600.
I play PUBG on this computer, that's all.
Which is best ? Does 32gb really necessary ?

This is purely a choice of preference.

Considering this is an Intel setup, you won't see much of a benefit going from 3200MHz to 3600MHz.
You can also possibly overclock to 3333MHz or even higher.

And right now 16GB is still plenty but there are games starting to require more memory. And considering you are buying RAM now, you'll most likely keep it for a few years and 16GB might not be enough in a few years. Even if you decide to change how you use your PC (a lot happens in a few years), maybe video edit, 16GB already is barely enough for that. Who knows what will be enough in the future.

Anyway, no matter which one you get be sure to enable XMP in the BIOS otherwise the memory will be running at a lower speed than what says on the box (usually @ 2133MHz).

You should wait for more objective responds, but I hope I answered even a bit.

The speed in not going to matter much with Intel.
I would get the 32GB since it's the same price. Your games or PC usage could change in a couple years so having more is not a bad thing.

Some of the newer games can already push close to 16 if you have a couple net tabs open, discord, and a monitoring program or 2.

definitely choose 32gb , that 400MHz difference is nothing compared to 16 gb difference as u have intel not amd

Since others have answered your questions, I'll ask this one ?

Is your current RAM limiting you in some way ?

PUBG is not demanding and your 1060 GPU will be the limiting factor (although perfectly adequate for Ultra 1080p at 60 FPS based on my reading).

Recommended System RAM is only 8GB for PUBG.

No my current RAM is enough. When I play pubg I use 70 to 80% of the 16GB (plus discord, softs for the mouse, the headset...). But if I can win 15fps in the game by upgrading to 3200 32GB I will be happy.
BTW in a previous conf I had PUBG Lite (light version) which didn't want to launch with 8GB of ram. Had to go to 10GB and then it launched (launch ? irregular ?)
I was wondering if it's better 2x16 or 4X8 ? (exact same sticks ofc).
Oh and yes the 1060 is quite enough for 1080p. I put all in low except the textures in medium. FPS goes around 130 more or less so the game is smooth (165hertz monitor).

I finally broke the purse and just bought this :

DDR4-3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 1.35V
32GB (2x16GB)

I hope i'll get a few fps more. At least my computer can hold a few years now ^^

I agree with troyer12345 that choosing Intel 32GB DDR is a smart choice because it is not a waste of money, you can play PUBG smoothly, and it is beneficial for the future of your PC.

Make sure to now go into BIOS and enable XMP profile to get the new 3200 speed when you install the new memory.
