Hello!
HELP PLEASE!!
As many people have reported here, I have a problem with my RAM on a new build (spec as follows):
Windows 7 Home 64 Bit
Asus Z87-Pro Motherboard
i7-4770K CPU
4x sticks of Kingston KVR16N11/8 8GB RAM
Initially we built the machine with just 2 sticks of ram (because 1 of the sticks was not in the delivery!), keeping the third to be installed with the fourth when it arrived (to install memory as pairs). The fourth stick just turned up so has been added along with the third - so all 4 sticks used.
You can view all in the BIOS. But when checking the system in Windows, I get the message 32GB RAM (16GB Usable).
Looking through the various threads from people with similar issues, I think I have tried nearly everything previously suggested to sufferers of the same problem - but obviously something has been missed! To recap, here is what I have done so far:
1. Updated BIOS and drivers on literally everything (most were on the latest anyway). Also run every windows update possible so nothing is left to install.
2. Removed RAM and reinstalled it in numerous configurations (original 2 in original slots, the new 2 in the old slots, all 4 in different arrangements). Just using any 2 works as it did originally, but not the 4. So I am 99.9% sure the RAM is fine.
3. In BIOS I have made sure remapping of memory is enabled plus the RAM voltages are as per spec. However as the BIOS is showing the RAM, my gut feeling is that this is in Windows somewhere.
4. In Windows I have gone into MSCONFIG>BOOT>ADVANCED OPTIONS. I have tried maximum memory ticked and unticked (presently unticked) - no difference. One point when I tick the box, windows automatically fills in 32768 (my RAM I am guessing?). However when I OK this, then go back into advanced, this value has either gone or been replaced with something else.
5. I have run the Windows Experience Index several times (in fact, Windows indicated this was needed when adding or removing memory due to hardware changes) - no effect.
6. Windows task manager only shows 16GB.
7. I have tried swearing at it numerous times - but it appears to be ignoring my insults!
Any help will be so appreciated!!!!!!!
Many thanks in advance!
