I plan on buying the 1180 with the 4k acer x27 and i was wondering will the 3570k@4.4 be enough for 4k gaming at 60+fps (if the GPU can do that) until the 10nm intel CPUs/zen 2 come out next year?

That's a capable CPU, at the moment, you will not get a significant performance uplift from upgrading it.
At 4K resolution, in most games, the video card will be the most tortured component.

With a new coffee lake CPU, you would get a small clock speed boost and +2 cores, and more threads, if you pick a hyper threaded variant, but most games aren't good utilizing more than 4 thread.

Yeah I'd definitely upgrade my CPU if I as sticking with 1080p but i just have a hard time buying a refresh of a refresh of a refresh. I'd rather wait until they change to 10nm/zen 2.

If you plan on buying an 1180, you should probably sit back just kick your legs up, grab a beer, and wait for the 1180 TI. For, it will replace the 1180s MSRP and offer much larger amounts of performance.

Yes, the x80 TI comes out a year after the x80 comes out. A lot of people don't think it's worth the wait. But once it does come out, they tend to feel the after affects of it by realizing how much more performance they would of gained if they just waited. Kind of leaves the feeling of a fire truck hosing you off with water at full pressure.

Well its ultimately up to you. at 4k resolution, the GPU becomes the bottleneck and the CPU is almost ignored.

In my opinion the x80 cards never seem to be the best price to performance ratio. It has always been the x60,x70, and x80 TI cards that have been the better buy.

Thanks for the link :).

I think for the moment I'll wait for the 1180 but if it's only the speculated 10-15% boost over the 1080 ti I may wait for the 1180ti. By the look of things nvidia is about to sell their mid range GPUs for high end prices due to lack of competition from AMD :(.

I was always advised never to buy GPUs near to a new release unless you have to

This is correct, as it's usually not a good idea to buy new GPU's near to a new release. The only GPU that is considered "ok" to buy close to a new release would be the x80 TI, only because it is the strongest out of the generation.

But yes, I think the 1180 TI will be a strong upcoming GPU.

I think I may wait till the 1180ti when the price of that monitor drops/more get released :p. I was expecting 1.8k max.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from zqa20 : "Is the 3570k enough for 4k gaming?"

If it just adds stress to the GPU then I'll be happy (I think)

If I'm happy with what frames my cpu is putting out at 1080p will i be happy with what it does at 4k?

It's not a question of being happy with the frames. If your CPU hold's back the TI to where it's pushing out the same performance of a gtx 1070, then you're essentially wasting performance/money.

This is true. I don't recommend gaming on 1080p with the 3570k using a GTX 1080 TI for these reasons.

But, it should be just fine on 4k. Since, the GPU will be the bottle neck.

How can you say that? What if the end user wants to play Battlefield 1 in 4k? That processor doesn't even meet the minimum system requirements. It's game dependent. You can't just generalize this and state it will run 4k.

My 4k monitor will be coming at the end of June and I also own a gtx 980 but I'll be upgrading to a 1080 ti before my monitor comes.

If my CPU does hold me back from getting 60fps in the games i tend to play on PC I'll just upgrade to the 8700k/2700x. The reason I'm putting off upgrading my CPU is because i either want to buy the 14nm 8 core or the 10nm CPUs intel is releasing next year.

If my 3570k can do the job at 4k until then, then i see no reason to upgrade :).

Sounds like you have a sound plan. What power supply do you have and what case? I want to make sure you don't run into any problems.

The Processor requirements for these games are more based on 1080p resolution. Where the CPU is required to work. Resolutions such as 4k. Result in a more GPU bound Scenario. Requiring less from the CPU.

Bottom line is, if you're gaming on 1080p. Don't buy hardware that is meant for 1440p/4k.
