3589i power on cranky

My wife's 3589i is sometimes cranky about responding to the power-on
button. It may take several pushes before it responds. I initially
suspected the switch itself, until one incident recently on vacation in
which it refused to power up at all, and I could clearly hear the contact
being made as the switch bottomed out at the end of each press.

On a hunch I connected the phone to the charger, pressed the button, and
it powered up ***INSTANTLY*** at the first tap. The battery, by the way,
was almost fully charged. Sounds like a firmware issue ... has anyone run
into this?

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I originally suspected the
button itself was bad, but now I suspect firmware. It usually happens when
the battery is weak, but this morning right after taking it off the charger
(after an overnight charge) it was hard to turn on. Actually, it turned on
OK, but the backlight did not come on, so you couldn't really see that it
was on. I usually have best luck in waiting for the beep to determine that
it is on, but sometimes there is no beep.

My 3589i is not the easiest phone to power up - you really do have to
hold the power button ON for a second or so. I've never noticed it
being more sensitive to AC vs battery but perhaps that is
intentional. The purpose of a not-easy-to-turn-on phone is to save
battery, isn't it? Not an issue if you have it on AC power.

You are describing my exact behavior of my 3589i :)

Glad to see it's not just my wife :)

I wonder how useful a visit to the Verizon service counter would be....
