i have a system ordered with an athlon 3700 i think sandiago, and was looking at the cpu charts and saw there were 2 3700. i was wondering if i got the better one for gaming and also, i heard there are problems with the clawhammer but not sure.

The Clawhammer is the older stepping. The San Diego is the latest and has SSE3 support as well as an updated memory controller. Memory compatibility has improved and performance should be a bit higher too. Just keep the San Diego.

san diego is better i agree with data they both idle at around the same temp 30c but load the sandiego goes to 55c while the clawhammer can reach 60c now these are max temps at 100 cpu usage!

There is also the small problem of there is no such thing as socket 939 Clawhammer 3700+, the only socket 939 is the San Diego. As well as the Clawhammer s754 version is clocked at 2.4GHz while the s939 San Diego version is clocked at 2.2GHz. So the thing to be concerned with corvette, is "Did I buy the right motherboard?"

As for piddy's temperatures, I own the 3700+ San Diego, even oc'd to 2.45GHz on stock cooling under full load, I can't break 40c. Not sure where you got that 55c from, must be from the same place you got the "6800GS maxes out at 50c" from too. Oh and the remark "I use oil cooling"...hmm..integrity...hmm...

My 3700+ claw doesnt run hotter than 45C most days with the fan on its lowest setting. Oh well it hardly sees anything other than idle(well and starcraft 😛 ) Now that i have this wonderful lil 360.
